Fill in the Blank Studio is a dedicated professional photography studio for rent in Houston, Texas.  Located just outside downtown, it offers 1500 square feet of shooting space in a converted, early 1900’s factory building.

With a full wall of windows, the studio is ideal for photographers who crave an interesting location that affords beautiful natural light.  The bare concrete floors, rustic old windows, and exposed brick walls, give our space character to spare! Need more controlled lighting?  The space also has the ability to block out the majority of natural light; create your own lighting with your studio strobes or off-camera flash.

With 12 foot ceiling at your disposal, there is room for even the most elaborate sets! (Bring everything you need up to the second floor in the building’s spacious elevator.) Around the exterior of the studio space are niches and nooks full of architectural details and small green spaces. Oh, did we mention free parking and convenient freeway access?

Where are you located?

Fill In The Blank Studio is located at 2500 Summer Street, suite 3219, Houston, TX 77007.
We are in the Summer Street Studio complex, building 3, 2nd floor, first studio on the right as you come out of the elevator.

Wait, YOU’RE CLOSING?!?!?!?

Yep! Fill In The Blank Studio will be closing the doors forever on December 30, 2018.  We will not be accepting rentals after that date, and will not re-open.  The studio we have occupied for over four years will be demolished, and our building is being converted into professional offices.

Can I call the studio?

Of course! 832.263.3182  The studio phone is answered during business hours Monday through Friday, and when available on weekends. If you can’t get ahold of us by phone, most likely there is someone working in the studio – you can always send us a text to the same number, and we should be able to respond that way if we can’t answer the phone.  (Please be aware that bookings are only made online.)

How can I schedule a tour of the the studio?

Please call us to request a tour of the studio. Studio tours are given around our booked rentals, and usually last no more than 15 minutes. Tours will not be scheduled after December 15, 2018.

Can I have my wedding shower/baby shower/luncheon/happy hour/birthday party at the studio?

Unfortunately, we are not equipped to host parties and special events in our studio. The only gatherings we hold in-studio are industry-related educational workshops and photographic society meetings. We are, however, happy to give you referrals to locations that provide party space rentals!

How do I rent the studio?

Renting the studio is simple! Start with the following steps:

  1. Visit our booking page to request your rental. Please be aware that we reserve the right to refuse any rental request at our discretion. Rentals are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis via this website link; email, Facebook, text, and phone calls are NOT recommended methods for scheduling rentals.
  2. Once we receive your rental request, we will email you a contract and an invoice. Your reservation is not confirmed until your invoice is paid in full and your contract is signed. Any booking not confirmed within 72 hours of receipt of invoice and contract will forfeit their reservation and must request their time slot again through the rental request webpage.
  3. After your contract is signed and your invoice is paid, show up to your scheduled rental time and we’ll be there to let you in and show you around the studio.

Please Note: If you have any fees related to past rentals that are unpaid, we will not approve any additional rentals requests from you until past due amounts are paid in full.

I am the client of the photographer, can I just rent the studio for them?

Fill In The Blank is a dedicated professional photography rental studio. The majority of our clients who rent our space are professional photographers, and/or hobbyists. Our business model, assignment of liability, and processes are set-up for photographers, and not the end clients of said photographers.

We have a specific contract intended for the photographer only that details studio rules, as well as the tools available, and what to expect when working with us. We do recognize that there are circumstances where a business hiring a photographer would be the legally responsible party; we do our best to accommodate these work-for-hire circumstances.

What is included in my rental?

Your rental includes studio time, use of studio furniture, apple boxes, multiple v-flats, studio fan, folding tables, rolling chalkboard wall, and access to wi-fi upon request. (Note: “studio time” must include time for set-up and breakdown of anything used during your session, including cleaning and resetting the studio furniture to it’s proper place, so please plan accordingly when making your request.)

What is NOT included in my rental?

We do NOT rent studio lighting, camera equipment, or photographers.

I’m a videographer. Can I shoot a video in the studio?

Most likely, no. Video projects are accepted on a CASE BY CASE BASIS ONLY. We are an advertised still-photography studio, therefore we reserve the right to decline all video shoots as they do not fit within the scope of our normal business. Our building is made of sound conducting materials, and any loud production disturbs the businesses surrounding us. Absolutely NO productions that depend on playback, loud music, instrument playing, or any uncontrollable, loud sounds are allowed in our studio. Please contact us directly about video projects and the higher videography rates associated with these productions.

When should I arrive at the studio for my rental?

You will be admitted into the studio no more than 10 minutes before your rental. If you need admittance into the studio earlier than your rental time, you may add time in 15 minute increments for $25 per additional 15 minutes, but only if the rental schedule allows. THIS MUST BE ARRANGED 24 HOURS OR MORE IN ADVANCE OF YOUR RENTAL APPOINTMENT.

What happens when my rental is over?

A studio associate will be back at the end of your studio time to “close” your rental and/or prepare the studio for the next rental. At that time, we will check to see that the studio is clean and in proper order and no damage has occurred to studio items during your session; cleaning fees are applicable if we feel it is necessary.

What if I need extra time or if I need to leave the studio early?

Sometimes sessions can run longer than expected. If there are no rentals after your scheduled rental, and you would like to extend, please call us immediately and let us know.  You may add time in 15 minute increments for $25 per additional 15 minutes, but only if the rental schedule allows.

Alternately, if you have finished your session before your rental time is done, please call the studio immediately and let us know. We will give you instructions on the process of closing up. Again, we do check to see that the studio is clean and in proper order and no damage has occurred to studio items during your session; cleaning and damage fees are applicable if we feel it is necessary.

What if I need to reschedule?

You must email or call the studio MORE THAN 24 HOURS before your confirmed booking to notify us of your need to reschedule. A $25 rescheduling fee applies for every reschedule request, and must be paid before new time slot is booked. Sessions may only be rescheduled two times, after that they are considered cancellations (see cancellation policy below).

What is your cancellation policy?

7+ Days In Advance: Cancellations of confirmed bookings 7 days or more before rental will be fully refunded minus a processing fee of $25.

3-6 Days In Advance: Cancellations of confirmed bookings 3-6 days in advance will not be refunded the hourly rental fee but will be eligible to reschedule once without an additional rescheduling fee. The rescheduled rental must be used within 3 months, or the studio credit is forfeited. If you choose not to reschedule, payments for any cleaning or damage deposits will be refunded.

Less than 3 Days In Advance: Cancellations of confirmed bookings less than 3 days before rental will not be refunded, but will be eligible to reschedule by paying the additional rescheduling fee. The rescheduled rental must be used within 6 months, or the studio credit is forfeited. Any deposits paid may be transferred with rescheduling, but will not be refunded.

Are there restrooms?

There are restrooms across the hallway from the studio.

Is there a changing area/makeup station/hair station?

We do not have a designated area for changing, hair or makeup. We have an 8 ft rolling wall that can be placed at an angle to offer privacy for simple outfit changes, or clients can change in the restrooms across the hallway. We have folding tables and stools so that hair and makeup can set up wherever they feel is best in the studio.

Can I shoot boudoir/artistic nude in the studio?

Our studio is a self-enclosed space with adequate privacy and window coverings. However, individuals in attendance of boudoir/glamour/artistic nude sessions must be 18 years of age or older. There are NO exceptions to this policy. We reserve the right to terminate any session at any time without refund.

Can I bring food into the studio?

You are allowed to bring food and drink into the studio, but please let studio staff know via phone or email 48 hours BEFORE your rental time.  Please be aware that you, the renter, must clean and return the studio to the order and cleanliness found when you arrived. If food or drink residue is found in the studio after your rental has ended, we will charge a $75 cleaning fee. We often have back-to-back rentals in the studio; please be courteous to the renter after you and keep the space clean. Love the space and it will love you back.

Can I/my client bring pets into the studio?

No pets are allowed in the studio without a paid pet cleaning fee, minimum of $25. Larger pets will incur larger pet cleaning fees. No un-neutered male pets are allowed in the studio at any time, no exceptions. Pets must be transported to the studio in a kennel, crate, or pet carrier. Pet must be walked every half hour to avoid accidents. If pets permitted into studio, studio door must be closed at all times. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in immediate termination of your rental without refund or studio credit, and will jeopardize your eligibility to rent the studio in the future.
